Buda is a Hays County city about 15 miles southwest of downtown Austin, right on I-35. The 2020 census counted 15,108 people. It is one of the smaller places on our list, and one of the closest.

The wiener dog races
Every April the Buda Lions Club organizes the Buda Country Fair and the Wiener Dog Races in Buda City Park, a two-day event that draws around 25,000 visitors, with a pet parade, a barbecue cook-off, a bake-off, a washer-pitching tournament and a best-dressed-dog contest. It is the town’s signature event. A private party for out-of-town friends that weekend is a common job: tell us early, since park traffic changes load-in.
Budafest and the holidays
At Christmas, Budafest fills downtown with craft vendors, a lighted parade and fireworks over downtown, and Historic Stagecoach Park is lit with holiday displays, with shuttles from Cabela’s. Holiday gatherings around it, such as office parties and reunions, need clear voices more than heavy bass.
Buda Mill & Grain
Buda Mill & Grain was built as a cotton gin and grain facility and has been restored into a downtown gathering place with restaurants, bars and shops. It is privately operated, so any event there follows the venue’s rules on amplified sound.
Downtown history
The downtown gazebo on Main Street and the Carrington House, a former hotel, anchor the historic center, and Onion Creek runs along the northwest side of town. Small events downtown need a modest PA kept low and aimed away from buildings.
Cabela’s and commercial Buda
Cabela’s sporting goods store helped anchor the city’s commercial development along I-35. Company outings and store events can use a portable PA and a couple of wireless mics. Ask the property manager before setting up in a shared lot.
Hill Country venues just west

Getting to Buda
I-35 is the main route, with SH 45, the toll loop around Austin, just north of town. We schedule around I-35 traffic. Kyle is next door to the south, San Marcos is farther south, and Dripping Springs is to the west. See the Austin area list.
