Taylor is a Williamson County city about 29 miles northeast of downtown Austin. The 2020 census counted 16,267 people. It was founded in 1876 as a railroad town, and its tagline is “Taylor Made Texas.”

The barbecue cook-off
The Taylor International Barbecue Cook-Off is held in Murphy Park, traditionally on the third Saturday in August, with seven divisions: beef, ribs, pork, poultry, lamb, seafood and wild game. It is an organized event with its own production. Cook-off teams, though, throw their own parties, and a Getting Bumping rig with a wireless mic fits a campsite or tailgate.
Music on Main and Heritage Square
Music on Main runs outdoors from September through November at Heritage Square Park, with the community bringing chairs and blankets. Heritage Square is downtown’s front porch. If you are organizing your own event there, city permits apply.
Christmas Parade of Lights
The Taylor Ministerial Alliance hosts a Christmas Parade of Lights followed by the city’s tree lighting on the first Saturday in December. Holiday events near the parade route need to be planned around road closures.
Fireworks at Murphy Park
The city’s July 4 fireworks show is held at Murphy Park at dusk, so backyard and block parties on the Fourth need speakers aimed away from the park crowd and set to a moderate level.
Hollywood in Taylor
Taylor has been a filming location for Varsity Blues, Friday Night Lights and Transformers: Age of Extinction, among others. Production crews and community events use the same historic downtown. Parties for wrap or cast events call for compact, clear sound.
Samsung and the employer calendar
Samsung announced a US$17 billion semiconductor plant in Taylor in 2021, and limited operations began in 2025. The train town
Taylor has an Amtrak station on the Texas Eagle line. Rail-themed events and the historic depot area are typical settings for small ceremonies, which need a portable PA kept low.
